девальвация
Падение стоимости валюты относительно стоимости золота или других валют. Правительства проводят девальвацию в тех случаях, когда они понимают, что курс их валюты оказался завышенным-например, если становится очевидным, что из-за высоких темпов инфляции экспортная продукция страны утратила конкурентоспособность либо торговый баланс (balance of trade) весьма неблагоприятен для страны. Задача девальвации состоит в том, чтобы сделать экспортные товары более дешевыми, а импортные товары-более дорогими, хотя, несомненно, отрицательным моментом является потеря доверия к стране, вынужденной девальвировать свою валюту. Девальвация-это мера, на которую вынуждены идти только государства с фиксированным обменным курсом (fixed exchange rate) своей валюты. Если валюта страны является “плавающей” (floating exchange rate), девальвации или ревальвации происходят постоянно и автоматически (см.: depreciation (обесценение); revaluation of currency (ревальвация валюты)).

1. Сумма, начисляемая на счет прибылей и убытков (profit and loss account) и представляющая износ или уменьшение стоимости актива. Эта сумма обычно является определенным процентом от стоимости актива, зафиксированной в бухгалтерских книгах; однако этот процент может исчисляться от разных стоимостей актива, что отражает и различия в способах начисления амортизации. Равномерное начисление износа (straight-line depreciation) предполагает ежегодное списание со стоимости актива определенного процента, т.е. в основе лежит предпосылка, что стоимость актива равномерно распределена на весь полезный срок службы актива. Метод начисления износа с сокращающейся (уменьшающейся) балансовой стоимости актива (reducing - (diminishing) balance depreciation) предполагает сначала сокращение стоимости приобретения актива на определенный постоянный процент, а впоследствии - уменьшение остаточной после предыдущих начислений износа стоимости на тот же процент. В этом случае на счет прибылей и убытков периодически начисляются постоянно уменьшающиеся суммы амортизации; при использовании этого метода остаточная стоимость актива, представленная в балансе, может более точно отражать действительную стоимость актива.

2. Падение стоимости валюты при “плавающем” курсе (fleating exchange rate) одной валюты по отношению к другой. Обесценением валюты могут называть как повседневные колебания ее курса, так и долгосрочную тенденцию к падению. Если для валюты установлен фиксированный обменный курс (fixed exchange rate), для изменения ее стоимости относительно других валют требуется проведение время от времени девальвации (devaluation) или ревальвации (devaluation) этой валюты.

валютный курс
Стоимость иностранной валюты, выраженная в единицах внутренней валюты (например, курс рубля — n рублей за доллар). В случае конвертируемости валюты, В.к. служит для того, чтобы спрос и предложение ее на рынке были равны. При этом обмен производится по курсу, который называется номинальным — в отличие от реального, исчисляемого при сравнении двух валют как номинальный курс, умноженный на отношение уровней цен в сравниваемых странах. Если Центральный банк позволяет валютному (номинальному) курсу свободно изменяться под воздействием рыночных сил, т.е. не производит интервенций на рынке иностранной валюты, то обменный курс является плавающим (floating exchange rate). В этом случае резервы иностранной валюты остаются неизменными. Впрочем, если принята такая система, что валютные поступления должны сдаваться в Центральный банк, который затем продает их с аукциона (так, что резервы валюты остаются неизменными), то мы имеем плавающий курс несмотря на то, что ЦБ продает иностранную валюту. При системе фиксированного курса (fixed exchange rate) банк готов продавать и покупать валюту в неограниченном количестве только по такому заданному курсу. Вмешательство Центрального банка в формирование курса валюты для предотвращения грозящих ему опасностей финансисты иногда называют интерминированием. Когда стоимость валюты падает, то при плавающем курсе говорят: она обесценивается (depreciation), а при фиксированном: она девальвируется (devaluation); соответственно, когда стоимость валюты растет, то при плавающем курсе она «дорожает» (appreciation), а при фиксированном — «ревальвируется» (revaluation).
